1. A-548(1) First copy Wanting the blank leaf¹ b8, and² a1-2; only a small corner of fragment of² a2 left in place. Gatherings¹ a and b are bound at the end of the volume, after gathering ‘28'. On¹ a2r l. 1 ‘ſentētiarū', not as BMC (`sententiarū'). Binding: Seventeenth-century English(?), blind-tooled, reversed calf. Formerly chained: staple-marks of a hasp at head of the upper cover. On both covers double fillets form a frame, also an inner rectangle, the latter framed by a floral roll, and with fleurons at the inner and outer corners of the rectangle. Number ‘4' on fore-edge. The gold stamp of the Bodleian Library on both covers. Size: 332 × 230 × 100 mm. Size of leaf: 317 × 206 mm. Early marginal notes. Initials and paragraph marks are supplied in red. Some capital strokes in red. Provenance: Edward Bernard (1638-1697); Wanley's list, p. 3, no. 237. Among the books purchased in 1697 from Bernard's widow. 2. A-548(2) Second copy Wanting parts I and III. Binding: Contemporary (c.1490) German (Indersdorf?) calf over wooden boards. Five bosses on lower cover now lost. Corner-pieces, catches, and both clasps. Traces of chaining on head of the lower cover. Manuscript label at head of the upper cover. On the upper cover double fillets form a frame, within which are a heart-shaped palmette stamp, a stamp of an armorial shield containing the monastery's coat of arms, a small floral stamp, a small lozenge-shaped stamp of an animal, and a foliate stamp. Double fillets form the inner rectangle, which is divided by further double fillets into lozenge-shaped and triangular compartments, with the armorial stamp, a flowerpot stamp, the foliate stamp, and a very small floral stamp. On the lower cover double fillets form a rectangle, divided by further fillets into triangular compartments, which are undecorated. See Goldschmidt I 156, no. 28a and II, pl. CI.
