Binding: Sixteenth-century (post-1515, probably mid-century) German blind-tooled pigskin over wooden boards, with catches and clasps. On both covers triple fillets form a frame, containing a roll lettered ‘HR 1549', similar to Haebler, Rollen- und Plattenstempel, I 369. Within this, double fillets form a further frame, which is undecorated, and, within this, double fillets surround an inner rectangle, decorated with a floral(?) roll. All the stamps are badly worn. Shelf-label on spine: black ‘E' on grey ground, with rest of shelfmark erased. Size: 140 × 115 × 80 mm. Size of leaf: 128 × 95 mm. Early marginal notes, mostly in one hand, which predates the binding of the book. Two- and three-line initials and paragraph marks are supplied in red. Some capital strokes and underlining in red. Provenance: Erased inscription on a1r of item 1. ‘Hereditate Rosenmarckeriana 1547', on a1r of item 1. Johannes Winkler (fl. 1559); sixteenth-century woodcut armorial book-plate: a shield within an ornamental frame supported by two putti, bearing a chevron between three stars, and lettered above ‘I.
