Wanting the blank leaf [a1].
Binding: Nineteenth-century calf (c.1825), bound for the Bodleian Library; marbled pastedowns; the gold stamp of the Library on both covers.
Size: 346 × 233 × 38 mm.
Size of leaf: 335 × 220 mm.
Copious early marginal notes mainly correcting the text; some marginal notes contain historical observations; on [d1v] a marginal note corrects the ascription of a letter to Cicero; the interlinear notes mainly give synonyms; Greek words supplied in the blank spaces.
On [a2r] a seven-line Venetian epigraphic initial ‘E' is supplied in gold, surrounded by reserved white vine-stems defined in maroon, green, and blue, decorated with white dots, all extending into a border further decorated with gold dots; in the lower margin is a green wreath, containing a blank shield on a blue ground. Similar initials at the beginning of each book. See Pächt and Alexander II, 109 no. pr. 57. Other epigraphic initials are supplied in red or blue; rubrics are supplied in red; running book numbers are supplied in black ink.
