Binding: Eighteenth/nineteenth-century English gold-tooled red morocco; marbled pastedowns; gilt-edged leaves; the gold stamp of the Bodleian Library on both covers. Size: 213 × 150 × 22 mm. Size of leaf: 205 × 142 mm. Early marginal and interlinear notes in brown ink, mainly correcting the text; some words in the text are scored through by the rubricator and corrected in brown ink. Initials, some with extensions into the margin, and paragraph marks are supplied in red. Capital strokes in red. Provenance: Theodoricus Xanctis (fifteenth century). Liège, Augustinian Canons Regular, S. Leonardus; as gift from Xanctis; inscription on recto of front endleaf: ‘Liber fratrum Regularium in sancto Leonardo prope Leodium nobis datus a venerabili domino ac magistro Theodorico Xanctis canonico Leodiensis oretur s[emper] p[ro] e[o]'. Alexander Horn (1762-1820). Sir Mark Masterman Sykes (1771-1823) 1819; armorial book-plate; inscription on verso of front endleaf: ‘M M Sykes This book was bought by me at Francfort July the 4th 1819 of Mr. Horn and is one of the rarest of all Cicero's pieces.
