1. N-022(1) Copy Binding: Contemporary German (Augsburg, Kyriß workshop no. 80) blind-tooled calf over wooden boards; two clasps and catches, also corner-pieces and bosses lost. On the upper cover triple fillets form the outer frame; further intersecting triple fillets form the inner frame within which is a repeated square rosette stamp (Kyriß pl. 163, no. 4); triple fillets form the inner rectangle which is divided by triple fillets into quadrilateral compartments decorated with a small flower-petal stamp, and a central rectangular compartment which is decorated with a repeated lozenge-shaped fleur-de-lis stamp. On the lower cover triple fillets form the outer frame; further intersecting triple fillets form the inner frame, within which is the repeated rosette stamp; triple fillets form the inner rectangle which is decorated with a repeated headed-outline tool making up merrythoughts each containing a fleuron (Kyriß pl. 163, no. 3), a second fleuron (Kyriß pl. 163, no. 2), and a small foliate stamp (Kyriß pl. 163, nos 5 or 6). For a similar binding see D‑168(1) [Inc. d. I4.1481.2-5]. A paper manuscript label at the head of the spine, containing the title of the work and its date; a smaller manuscript label towards the foot of the spine is lettered ‘V.18'[?]. Rebacked. Size: 282 × 202 × 115 mm. Size of leaf: 272 × 187 mm. On the badly damaged front and rear endleaves are two lists of names written in the same fifteenth/sixteenth-century German hand. One- to eight-line initials, some with extensions into the margins, and paragraph marks supplied in red; capital strokes in red. Provenance: Duplicate from the Royal Library, Munich; ‘Duplum' in black ink, partly mutilated, on the verso of the front endleaf.
