Occasional marginal notes in a sixteenth-century German hand, providing section numbers for the text and extracting place names. Bibliographical notes in an eighteenth-/nineteenth-century German(?) hand on a1r, and in the same(?) hand on the second front endleaf. 2. P-528(2) Second copy The modern maps are bound at the end, except that of Italy, which is bound between the 6th and 7th of Europe. The explanatory text to maps 9 and 10 of Europe, 2 and 4 of Africa, 6 and 11 of Asia is from a different setting. The first leaf has been cut up and mounted, the last leaf backed. Binding: Eighteenth-century mottled calf; the spine gold-tooled, with a gilt title on a red leather label; the gold stamp of the Bodleian Library on both covers; sprinkled red-edged leaves; marbled pastedowns. Size: 432 × 301 × 42 mm. Size of leaf: 422 × 284 mm. The historiated woodcut initial painted, in a later century, in several colours; incomplete lower border of fleur-de-lis painted in green and pink.
